Caravanning with the kids: top tips for family road trips in Scotland
Be prepared next time you’re on a road trip!
Planning a caravan trip with the kids this summer?
Here are 5 things to remember when planning your summer road trip in Scotland:
1. Plan, Plan, Plan!
Always plan your routes in advance so you know what to expect on the roads. Make note of places to stop, eat, go to the toilet and stretch your legs. After long periods of driving, planning time for everyone to get up and burn some energy will ease the strain of sitting down inside. When back on the road, it’s always good to remind the kids when the next stop is approaching – better to be safe than sorry!
2. Bring snacks
Whilst it’s always good to stop for some food, having some snacks will help you prepare for the unexpected! Sometimes road closures, diversions or the weather can alter eating plans, so make sure to bring some non-perishable snacks and soft drinks for the road.
3. Water
You might not believe it, but Scotland can get warm in the Summer! Always make sure that you and your family stay hydrated on the roads. This will keep you all happy, focused and hydrated. There’s nothing worse than stepping into a hot car with nothing to cool down!
4. Portable chargers
Even with sufficient planning, you’ll likely be using your phone to help navigate your journey, which can take a considerable toll on the battery. Remember to stay one step ahead and bring a portable charger with you. This way you can comfortably use your phone without having to worry about emergencies or where to stop and charge.
5. Things to pass the time
Think ahead - games, activities or belongings will help ease long periods of driving. Make sure to pack the favourite toys or teddies, headphones, colouring books, stickers, or download some movies to watch on a portable device. Why not create a family playlist to sing along to during the journey!
